Company Management


The team described below includes key individuals and engineering firms who have many years of successful engineering project design, project financing, and project delivery experience. Additional personal will be recruited as required to assure meeting project goals. Operation of a Heartland plant will be carried out under extended term performance contracts with highly qualified firms in the wastewater treatment industry.


George E. Howard –Managing Member of HRE

Dr. Howard is experienced in the management as well as the design and engineering of energy generation plants and ancillary systems His management experience over the past 25 years has included line responsibility for some 120 employees in five offices in three states at ANCO Engineers. He also served variously as Director of Business Development, Chief Engineer, Chief Financial Officer and Chairman for ANCO Engineers where he lead teams undertaking projects for domestic as well as foreign clients and including work “on the ground” in Germany, France, South Korea, Australia and Canada. He has earned BS, MS and PhD degrees in Engineering from UCLA and subsequent registration as a Professional Engineer in both the mechanical engineering and nuclear engineering disciplines. Dr. Howard is an alumnus of the UCLA Graduate School of Business’ Engineering and Management Program.


Tom Kremer –Managing Member of HRE

Mr. Kremer brings extensive business experience in land, large real estate development projects, finance and other entrepreneurial enterprises. He has been involved in Real Estate and business development since 1979. Mr. Kremer owns and operates over 500 apartments and multiple commercial developments. Mr. Kremer has become an active venture capitalist investing in a broad array of commercial, agricultural and environmental businesses. Mr. Kremer has a high school degree and served 4 years in the US Marine Corp.


Roger T. Dirstine –Managing Member of HRE

Dr. Dirstine has over 25 years of experience in R&D, project and operations management and technology transfer. This includes senior research scientist positions at Johnson Controls, Unitrode Corporation and Cabot Corporation, V.P. of Manufacturing for NanoProducts Corporation, V.P. of Operations and Technical Sales at Ultra Fine Powder Technology, and Founder and President of Flatirons Labs, Inc. He has earned his B.S. degree from Washington State University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He also participated in Boston University’s Executive Management Program and was an Engineering Duty Officer in the US Navy.


Consultants

H. Leon Breckenridge, Technical Advisor
Mr. Breckenridge has over 35-years of professional engineering experience, primarily in applying and integrating new technologies with proven industrial processes for a wide range of industries (wood products, paper, aerospace, agriculture). He has held positions as Engineering Manager, Corporate Energy Manager and project manager for a number of waste-to-energy projects with experience in solid and liquid waste energy recovery, wood, pulp and paper mill waste recovery, pyrolysis-gasification of solid wastes, and associated environmental aspects as they relate to the Clean Air Act, the Solid Waste Act, and the Water Quality Act. Other major activities have been to provide proposal evaluation and project management for the US Department of Energy with emphasis on alternative energy sources, such as biomass, wind, solar and forest product waste materials, and waste heat recovery and utilization of industrial solid waste streams. Mr. Breckenridge holds a B.S. in Engineering Physics and an M.S. in Management of Waste and Energy Systems (Central Washington University).

Mr. Wayne Greenberg, Senior Advisor
Mr. Greenberg is CEO of Architectural Energy Corporation; a leader in the "green buildings" arena. He has extensive business and legal experience, including serving as CEO of WellDog, a venture backed company engaged in the production and delivery of data to enhance the profitability of coal bed methane extraction. He has been an advisor to EnerTech Capital (one of the largest energy and clean tech VC’s in the US) since 1998 and has served in a variety of roles including directorships and interim management for several EnerTech portfolio companies. Wayne is also the former president of Financial Times Energy, a division of the Financial Times Group of London and a national publishing, consulting and research firm specializing in energy markets and utility industry deregulation Prior to FT Energy, Wayne was president of E Source, a start-up information firm serving the energy marketplace. Wayne helped grow the company to be listed on Inc Magazine’s “Inc 500” list of fastest growing companies in America. Wayne also served as president of Shepard’s, the $100 million legal publishing arm of the McGraw-Hill Companies and led the sale of both companies. Mr. Greenberg holds a J.D. in law and an M.B.A. in business administration both from Tulane University.
